Mathematics

Mathematics at The English Guild Experience presents a unique opportunity for each student to develop their independent learning skills. Hard work, effective self assessment for learning, time management and perseverance will all be in focus as students complete their respective assignments from their own school curriculum. By making an individual plan, using appropriate methods of assessment to identify strengths and weaknesses, and under the guidance of an experienced teacher, students become the masters of their own progress. Daily classes will allow students to ask questions, consolidate comprehension, overcome obstacles, and submit work for correction.

Maintaining their self discipline and regular reflection on their plan will keep them on track, and allow time for additional challenges and tasks to stretch their application of familiar concepts. Without the usual extrinsic motivators, each student will develop intrinsic drivers to achieve success, setting targets and learning the joy of achieving their goals at their own pace. I encourage students to see errors as opportunities for learning, and hence not to fear making mistakes. A willingness to try, knowing when to ask for guidance, maintaining their highest standards and occasionally working collaboratively with peers will bring out the best in each student.
