Meditation, Metacognition & Neuroscience

Once per week our students take part in a lesson that is centered on mindfulness and metacognition. This weekly touchstone entails the definition of meditation and a breakdown of the logic behind the practice, the scientific research being carried out around meditation, and how to use meditation to relate to the world in a more skilful and harmonious way.

We will study the structure and function of the brain, the phenomenon of neuroplasticity, and what this means in terms of habit formation and behavioral patterns. We will also teach our students some of the basic neuroscientific principles behind the process of learning, a pedagogical technique that has been proven to have a positive effect on children’s achievement and enjoyment in lessons.

By the end of the course, the students will develop a ‘growth mindset’, gain knowledge of how their brains and minds work, develop more productive study skills, have confidence in their ability to grow and improve, strengthen their capacity to concentrate for an extended period of time, and have a more profound compassion and empathy towards others.
